Congratulations to Auxiliary 27 - Nanaimo on the launch of their new Falkin Class jet boat.
This pride of the fleet has been 3 years in development and 6 months in construction. This twin diesel inboard jet drive vessel will now be undergoing sea trials.
Congratulations to Auxiliary 27 - Nanaimo on the launch of their new Falkin Class jet boat this week.
This pride of the fleet has been 3 years in development and 6 months in construction. This twin diesel inboard jet drive vessel will now be undergoing sea trials.
The specs of the boat:- Size – 33 foot, rollover capable
- Construction – Aluminum with foam "D" collars and air bladder
- Power – Volvo twin 435hp with Hamilton 274 jets or Yamaha 350hp 4-stroke outboards
- Crew compliment - 4-5 crew
- Seating configuration - Shock mitigating seats for 4 with 4 point harnesses
- Standards - built to (Transport Canada TP 1322, Lloyds Registry G5, ISO standards)
- Watertight cabin with 4 watertight compartment throughout the boat.
This is the first vessel in the class and will be stationed in the City of Nanaimo, the busiest Unit in the Pacific region averaging 90 calls per year. The second and third vessel are under construction with plans to build 3 more in the next 2 years. Our region as well as the other auxiliary regions and Coast Guard themselves are aware of this project and acknowledge that we have reached a significant achievement and milestone in the development of the Auxiliary.
