The federal government today announced a donation in the amount of $50,000 to the Canadian Coast Guard Auxiliary in honor of Friday's Royal Wedding.
Prime Minister Stephen Harper announced the donation this morning in a statement.
"Canada is proud to offer a wedding gift to a family member of our Head of State, Her Majesty the Queen. This gift was chosen specifically for the occasion and represents Canadians and the pride they have in their country," Harper said in the statement.
The Canadian Coast Guard Auxiliary was one of the charitable organizations William and Kate chose to benefit from a charitable gift fund they set up in lieu of receiving personal gifts for their big day.
